Music Carrier

Jayita began singing at the age of four. She is a versatile singer with training in various genres, including Indian classical, light classical (such as Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Chaiti, Tappa in Purab Ang style), Bhajan, Raagpradhan, Ghazal, Androgenetic, and Bengali modern songs.

Jayita has been a winner in various music competitions since her childhood. In recent years, she participated in the Purab Ang Gayaki Utsav in Banaras, where she showcased her talent in Thumri and Dadra. Jayita became an empaneled artist of the West Bengal Information and Cultural Ministry in 1986, and she was invited to perform Najrulgeeti alongside eminent artists. Her performances have taken her to various cities in the US, Canada, and India, where she has enthralled audiences with her musical prowess.

Academics

Jayita holds a MCRP degree (Master of City and Regional Planning) from the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs of the University of Texas at Arlington. 

Research

In addition to pursuing her music, Jayita’s diverse skill set, commitment to make a positive impact through her work, is showcased by her contribution to both academic and non-profit sectors. 

Her research work conducted in collaboration with eminent scientist Dr. Christopher Elvidge of NOAA and funded by the Environmental Protection Agency of US was published in a chapter in a book in 2006. Her active involvement in research and database work with underfunded non-profit research organizations, notably, one of the research projects she was previously involved in with the Canadian Urban Institute led to an ongoing private-public collaboration in Canada.
